This book collects a group of experiments directed toward making intelligent machines. Each of the programs described here demonstrates some aspect of behavior that anyone would agree require some intelligence, and each program solves its own kinds of problems. These include resolving ambiguities in word meanings, finding analogies between things, making logical and nonlogical inferences. Herman Hollerith (Febru – Novem ) was an American businessman, inventor, and statistician who developed an electromechanical tabulating machine for punched cards to assist in summarizing information and, later, in accounting. His invention of the punched card tabulating machine, patented in , marks the beginning of the era of semiautomatic data processing systems Born: Febru , Buffalo, New York.

Information processing plays an important role in science and technology. As we have seen throughout this book, optical systems can perform a wide variety of transformations on signals that can be displayed over 2D planes. This is in contrast to electronic processors, where signals are presented only as a one-dimensional temporal : Joseph Shamir. Topics covered at the conference included computer architecture, data flow graphs, switched-memory multiprocessor systems, robot operating systems, computer vision, robot programming, cognitive robotics, parallel algorithms and architectures for image processing, the design of parallel production system machines, the granularity of parallel computation, distributed dataflow simulation systems, .

The yearly Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) workshops bring together scientists with broadly varying backgrounds in statistics, mathematics, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, neuroscience, and cognitive science, unified by a common desire to develop novel computational and statistical strategies for information processing and to understand the mechanisms for. Information processing is the change (processing) of information in any manner detectable by an such, it is a process that describes everything that happens (changes) in the universe, from the falling of a rock (a change in position) to the printing of a text file from a digital computer the latter case, an information processor (the printer) is changing the form of.
